East Bay Member Meetup:

Wahpepah Kitchen
November 17th, 2024 at 1:00 pm

Please join fellow Dames for a no-host lunch at the first woman-owned Native cuisine restaurant, Wahpepah’s Kitchen in Oakland on Ohlone land. Owner-chef Crystal Wahpepah is a member of the Kickapoo nation and a native of Oakland. She and her Indigenous team focus on reclaiming Native food sovereignty and Wahpepah’s ingredients—from squash and corn to wild rice and bison—are sourced from Native producers and farmers near and far. Her seasonal menu features these ingredients in fritters, tacos, stews, chili, meatballs, mole and more. We’ll be sure to try her popular Three Sisters Veggie Bowl with maple chili oil.

Crystal Wahpepah gave the keynote address at this year’s LDEI Annual Conference in Phoenix where she shared photos of her team picking Buffalo Creek Squash in October. The squash are part of the traditional seed and Native foodways project at Heron Shadow, Native land in Sonoma County. This is one of many ways Crystal is a leader in the Native and local food community, sharing her Indigenous knowledge and expertise through her seasonal and sustainable cuisine.

Please register to reserve your place at this special autumn lunch by November 15. Dames, please plan to cover your own food and drink costs via cash, check, Venmo or Zelle to the Meetup ambassador, Kara Nielsen. We have reserved space for 14 Dames; guests interested in our chapter or future membership welcome.

There is no cost to register but $10 donations to our general fund are welcome to support our administrative costs.
