The Karola Saekel Craib Excellence in Food Journalism Fellowship Celebration

2023 Fellowship recipient Teresa Cotsirilos of the Food and Environment Reporting Network in conversation with Margo True, editorial director of Civil Eats, with an introduction by 2016 Fellow Lisa Morehouse of California Foodways

Since 2010, the San Francisco Chapter of Les Dames d'Escoffier has supported Bay Area women journalists through The Karola Saekel Craib Excellence In Food Journalism Fellowship. Prior awardees have included Novella Carpenter, Twilight Greenaway, Lisa Morehouse, Rachel Levin, and Bonnie Tsui. This year’s awardee is Teresa Cotsirilos, food reporter at Food and Environment Reporting Network. Our recipients explore and report on food, wine & spirits, agriculture policy, restaurant criticism, foodways and food culture.

Enjoy a spring luncheon buffet with Wente Vineyards award-winning wines, plus a lively and provocative conversation about challenges facing our nation’s food supply.

Grande Dame Carolyn Wente, the winery’s chairman emeritus, will welcome guests. Lisa Morehouse of California Foodways will introduce Teresa Cotsirilos, and Margo True, editorial director of Civil Eats, will lead the discussion. Bay Area thought leaders Sibella Kraus of Sustainable Agriculture Education (SAGE), Jesse Cool of Flea Street Cafe, and Alice Medrich will be attending and contributing to the conversation.

Fifth-generation winegrower & director of vineyard operations Niki Wente will talk about thewines and sustainability in the vineyards.

Enter a raffle to win Dame Andrea Nguyen’s Ever-Green Vietnamese: Super-Fresh Recipes, Starring Plants from Land to Sea or Dame Tanya Holland’s California Soul: Recipes from a California Journey West (books courtesy of Ten Speed Press).

This event is open to Dames, their guests, and the public.

Tickets are $100. Please register by May 13. Tickets are non-refundable, but they are transferable.
