LDEI-SF presentsOur chapter is fortunate to have the collective expertise of many who are leaders in bringing extra virgin olive oil to our kitchens. Join us for this informative and delicious exploration of extra virgin olive oils from three continents. With Margo True moderating the discussion and tastings with Deborah Rogers, Fran Gage and Patricia Darragh, we’ll learn how traditional foodways and modern agricultural and technical advances come together to produce improved extra virgin olive oils from California, Italy, Spain, and Australia. Find out how today’s producers are meeting objective standards to provide consumers with a range of real extra virgin olive oils at various price points.
This program includes growers to millers, importers to retailers, educators to writers. From California, producers include the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation's Seka Hills--the debut offering; Talcott from Carneros; California Olive Ranch from Oroville; and providing the historic perspective, Livermore Wente Vineyards Oro Fino from trees planted in the late 19th century. From Italy and courtesy of Manicaretti Imports come and from Spain courtesy KL Keller Imports comes Marques de Valdueza. Additional extra virgin olive oils will be offered for informal tastings.
The luncheon menu by Taste Catering, the Purcell Murray culinary staff, and The Pasta Shop will showcase the flavors and uses of the various oils. Think bountiful mezze and olive oil poached salmon salad, culminating with ricotta fritters with date syrup, olive oil pound cakes, and chocolate truffles. Wente Family Estates generously is providing wines.
